ITV News highlights importance of mental health at NCFSC event

ITV News Anglia’s coverage of the Norwich City Fans Social Club Mental Health Awareness Evening shed light on mental health and the positive impact that events like this can have on the local community.
The evening was a powerful reminder of the importance of breaking down the stigma surrounding mental health and the need for open and honest conversations about mental wellbeing.
The event, held at Carrow Road, was organised by Norwich City Fans Social Club in partnership with nineteen local mental health organisations. It aimed to raise awareness about the importance of mental health and the resources available to those who need support.
During the evening, ITV News Anglia reporter Andy Ward interviewed several guest speakers at the event. Including former Norwich City footballers, Darren Eadie and Declan Rudd, plus Sky Sports broadcaster Simon Thomas, who shared their personal experiences and talked about the need for mental health support in the community.
“The biggest lesson I learned was disconnecting from people is the worst thing you can do,” Simon Thomas said. “You retreat and cut off contact from people and deal with it in your own. But for me, dealing with the big challenges in life, particularly when it comes to mental health, on your own is the worst thing to do.”
The Mental Health Awareness Evening – Monday 23rd January 2023 was a great success and received a positive response from the local community. Attendees appreciated the opportunity to learn about the support offered by local mental health groups and engage in frank discussions about the subject.
Andy Ward’s report was broadcast on ITV News Anglia on Thursday, January 26th.
