Quiz Night – Wednesday, March 27th 2024
On Wednesday 27th March, a moonlit Carrow Road Stadium was buzzing with excitement as 31 teams, totaling almost 200 contestants, gathered for the highly anticipated Norwich City Fans’ Social Club Quiz Night.
Hosted by the witty sports journalist Michael Bailey, and with quizmaster Amy setting the questions, it promised to be an evening of friendly competition and mental gymnastics. Where obscure knowledge met wild guesses. All for a good cause.
The Name Game
The teams came up with some brilliantly imaginative names. From classics like “Never Gonna Quiz You Up,” to the clever “AC a little silhouetto of Milan,” and even some nods to their favourite footballers with “Gunns & Roses” and “Sainz, Sealed, Delivered,” the team names alone set the tone for the night.
Trivia: From Film To Fiction
Teams tackled an eclectic mix of trivia spanning from Hollywood, famous slogans, to literature’s greatest names. Picture teams puzzling over which movie snagged the most Oscars this year, decoding iconic corporate slogans, to diving into classic literature, contestants showcased their knowledge with gusto. Even historical head-scratchers were thrown into the mix – like determining if the moon landing or the birth of Justin Bieber came first!
Celebrating Victory
But it was team “Brown & Co Brains” who stole the show, clinching the victory with an impressive 68 points. Lisa, Darren, Kelsey, Jasmine, Dan & Kyle all walked away with special trophies and large Easter Eggs, undoubtedly celebrating their triumph well into the night.
Not far behind were the joint second-place teams, “Sainz, Sealed, Delivered,” and “J is for Genius,” both scoring an impressive 67 points.
And let’s not forget the teams in joint fourth place, “Peaches and Team,” “Score Sara Sara!” and “Trust Us,” each finishing strong with 66 points.
Of course, every competition has its wooden spoon winner, and this time it was team “Acle Bowlers” who proudly took home the honour, along with their very own wooden spoons and a bar of chocolate. But as the Greek philosopher Socrates wisely said, “The only true wisdom is in knowing you know nothing.”
Giving Back
But the night wasn’t just about the quiz; it was also about giving back. Thanks to the generosity of all involved, including the social club partner, Fosters Solicitors, who covered all expenses, the event raised a grand total of £2,850 for Norwich City Football Club’s official charity, the Community Sports Foundation.
The social club would also like to thank helpers Jacqui, Mark, Connor, Ronnie, Sue and Diane D, who ably assisted the team of social club volunteers on the night.

Flipping Fun
The half-time game of “Heads or Tails,” provided some nail-biting excitement. Congratulations to Billy Hobson from “Match of the Dads” for coming out on top and winning an ‘Afternoon Tea with Prosecco’ courtesy of Rooftop Gardens.
Bidding Wars & Generosity
The auction was a highlight of the night, with fantastic prizes generously donated by various sponsors. From signed shirts to hospitality days, the bidding wars were fierce and rewarding.
Here’s a closer look at each item and the lucky winners:
Sydney van Hooijdonk Signed Shirt: Donated by Norwich City Football Club, this prized possession fetched a winning bid of £90 from Connor Brown, a member of team “We the Ones.”
Fortnum & Mason Hamper: Complemented by Smirnoff Vodka, Jack Daniels Whiskey, and Edinburgh Rhubarb & Ginger Gin Liqueur, this luxurious hamper was donated by the 8:56 Foundation mental health group. Chloe McEwen, representing team “AC a little silhouetto of Milan,” secured the winning bid of £100.
Borja Sainz Signed Shirt: Another gem from Norwich City Football Club, this signed shirt went under the hammer for a whopping £110, claimed by Jen de Polo of team “Answering Machines.”
Norwich City Hospitality Day for 2 People: This exclusive experience included a 3-course lunch, drinks, half-time snacks, and 2 seats in the Directors box as guests of Norwich City Director, Tom Smith. Generously donated by Tom Smith of Norwich City Football Club, it fetched an impressive bid of £350 from Chris Marris, a member of team “Is Ya Motherwell.”
Jonathan Rowe Signed Shirt & Football Boots: Donated by both Norwich City Football Club and Jonathan Rowe, this unique prize saw a heated bidding war, eventually won by Connor Brown of team “We the Ones” with a bid of £210.
Congratulations to all the winners and a heartfelt thank you to the donors for their generosity in supporting such a worthy cause!
An Unforgettable Evening
The Norwich City Fans’ Social Club Quiz Night was a testament to the power of the community, coming together to support a worthy cause, and leaving everyone eagerly anticipating the next quiz night extravaganza.
Just remember, as Miles Kington pointed out, “Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad.”
Your reviews
Great fun night
Our team thought the first 2 rounds were a little tough & looking at the scoreboard others had the same problem, but we know how hard it is to write a quiz to please everyone.
We liked the ” what came first round ” it was different.
Only suggestion might be 6 shorter rounds of instead of 4 long ones.
We thought £7 per head was very reasonable for all the expenses you must incur in an events room at the football club plus chips
Great raffle prizes & auction prizes.
Hope thats helpful, we are looking forward to the next one.
Quiz night
A very well run evening which me and friends very much enjoyed and laughed a lot and would definitely come again. The quiz host yet again was top tier 👌 the questions where not on topics we as a group was familiar with but we still finished 15th out of 32 so we was well chuffed. The auction items where very well priced and offer those items which some people can’t get access too.
Brilliant
