Dean Smith and Craig Shakespeare were the guests at the latest Norwich City fans social club event, with the Canaries boss and his assistant answering supporters’ questions and entertaining our audience with thrilling anecdotes of their life in football.

The pair, who are hoping to guide Norwich City to Championship promotion this season, gave up their evenings to engage with supporters and share stories from the club’s recent pre-season camp in Germany.

Hosted by Michael Bailey, the pair offered an insight into their working and personal relationship, which extends back to their playing days at Walsall. Smith was first introduced to Shakespeare as a youth team scholar at the Midlands club and would clean his boots as part of his development.

Throughout their professional coaching careers, the pair then reunited at Aston Villa before making a move to Carrow Road last November.

Due to the Covid pandemic, social gatherings and meetings with supporters have been limited outside of matchdays, but this event offered supporters the chance to meet the pair leading their club and allow them to be introduced to their personalities.

With humorous exchanges and incredible insight, Smith and Shakespeare’s rapport bounced around the room, with over 200 City fans in attendance on the night inside the Gunn Club at Carrow Road.

Questions varied from the upcoming season to individual players like Todd Cantwell, who has captured the imagination of supporters with a bright pre-season campaign.

Our next event will be held in late August/early September – keep it locked to our social media channels for the details in due course.

We would like to thank our brilliant sponsors Fosters Solicitors, who have kindly agreed to sponsor our events for an additional 12 months, and also our friends at Norwich City Football Club, as well as Dean and Craig for their time.
