At the latest Norwich City Fans Social Club event, Norwich City and Ipswich Town revived their infamous rivalry but this time, it wasn’t about their respective abilities on the football pitch but rather their intellect that was being tested.
The title of who was the ‘Pride of Anglia’ was at stake, with the Ipswich team determined to do something that their side have failed to do on the pitch since 2009, record victory against Norwich City. Could they end this run?
Those tasked with returning to Suffolk with the win was esteemed journalists Stuart Jarrold and Mel Henderson. Captaining the Blue corner was Ipswich and England legend Terry Butcher, without anyblood-soaked bandage visible, who recalled anecdotes of his illustrious career much to the delight of our audience. Terry’s devotion to Ipswich is something he has never hid from view, but he was very complimentary about Norwich, whilst stopping for pictures with everyone who asked.
Norwich’s team were hoping to replicate the success on the pitch but also looking to gain a further advantage over their arch nemesis. Radio Norfolk duo Chris Goreham and Rob Butler provided Norwich’s team with footballing knowledge, whilst captain and Derby hero Grant Holt offered some much-needed insight into greyhound racing and American football. Cheers filled the room as the Ipswich side were unable to recall a single player who played in blue and white during the last East Anglian Derby played in 1994/95 but done so in a good spirit.
